The AAALAC states that institutions utilizing nonhuman primates (NHPs) must develop, document and follow an appropriate plan for environmental enhancement adequate to promote the psychological well-being of nonhuman primates. The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) have the responsibility to monitor the procedures in Wincon laboratories guaranteeing the animal welfare.
Wincon has developed a system with SOPs for NHP psychological enrichment based on the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals for enrichment practice. The welfare of primate in Wincon is maintained in two ways:
(a) Social environment. The housing animals have the right to communicate with each other. Thus housing condition in Wincon can make primate in individual cage can see, smell with others. Besides, all animals will receive daily contact with humans.
(b) Environmental enrichment. The physical environment of the NHP is enriched by proving toys, varied food items, video and radio, and animals may transfer to the Environmental Enrichment Room on a weekly rotating basis.
We treat animals in our care with respect, train stuff about animal welfare regularly and assure all procedures in the facility in complying with AAALAC guidance.
